For those of you who may not have heard, we are saddened to announce the death of Teresa Buick, Pension Analyst, on Thursday, August 7, 2003. Teresa was involved in a serious accident on August 3rd and succumbed to her injuries on the 7th. A service was held in Calgary on Wednesday August 13th. Theresa joined our Prairie Teamsters Administration Plan as Pension Analyst in 1995 and was very knowlegeable in every facet of Pension Administration. She worked tirelessly in the best interest of "her members" until her passing. She was a "team" player, and was loved and respected by all who had the privilege of knowing and working with her.She leaves to mourn, her husband Jeff, sons Shawn, Matthew, Tyler and Justin, her parents, brothers and sisters (she was one of nine children) , a large extended family, and of course her beloved dogs. In lieu of flowers, the family requested donations be made to the Southern Alberta Brain Injury Society in Calgary
Negotiations with Grimshaw Trucking, for the clerical employees have been completed, and the agreement has been ratified. It will be going out for signature next week. Brothers Porter and Pearce worked very hard to get an acceptable agreement for these employees.
We were saddened by the news that Doug Johnston, son of our former Secretary-Treasurer Jim Johnston, passed away on July 26, 2003 after a long battle with cancer. Doug, a former Motorways employee in Calgary, was 46 years old at the time of his passing. Our deepest sympathy goes out to Jim and Rene and their family at this time.
On a happier note, congratulations on their 25th Wedding Anniversary, August 12th, go out to Brother Dave Bennett (Edmonton Business Agent) and his wife Evelyn. It is a rare occurrence to celebrate a Silver Anniversary in these times.
And, Sister Michelle Henderson (AirCanada Jazz Flight Attendant) and her husband wecomed a new addition to their family, a beautiful baby boy whom they named Tanner.
Our Movie Division has been relatively busy this summer with several productions in the area. Watch the movie theatres and your TV for - Hollywood Wives, 12 Mile Road, Distant Drumming, Surviving Love, A Matter of Family, Word of Honor, Lazarus Child, Undercover Christmas, all of which have been or are being filmed in Alberta this summer.
Brother Bennett spent some time in Inuvik at their petroleum show in June. We are anxiously awaiting news on the northern pipelines, and anticipating work for our members once the lines are approved.

The Fall season is fast approaching, and we will be sending opening letters to several employers to commence negotiations - BFI, Ft McKay Transposrtation, MEl Martin, MTE Logistix Calgary, Oilsands City Transit, Peace Wapiti, Byers Transposrt 9500 Series, Oilsands Transportation, Oilsands Yellow Bus, Matthews Equipment, Martin Brower, Colin Kerr, Grayline Banff, Inland Camrose, Delta Catalytic Clerical, ABACAL Alberta, Voice Entertainment, MML Partnership, all will be open for negotiation before the end of the year, with another 12 to open before Easter. So you can see the Business Agents will be busy this Winter and Spring.
The International Brotherhood of Teamsters is celebrating their 100th Anniversary this year, with numerous events planned. Brothers Finley and Eichel as the principle officers of the Local Union, will be attending the Centennial Dinner and celebration in Washington DC on September 5th and 6th. Activities will include a tour of the IBT Headquarters, a Joint council Conference titled "The Future of the Teamsters, the premiuer of the Teamsters Centennial Documentary film, and a celebration session titled "A Strong Legacy, A Powerful Future" which will address importantevents in the Union's past and the potential for the future, featuring historians, officials frrom other Unions and representatives of other organizations, a brief historical program and entertainment celebrating the event. This is a major mileston for our great Union, and one we can be extremely proud to be part of. Remember Union begins with U.
The Alberta Building Trades Convention will be taking place in Jasper the last week of September. Brothers Bennett, Krawchenko, Finley, and Eichel will represent Local 362 construction and pipeline members.
