Stampede is over and Klondike Days are about to begin. Can winter be far behind???
Business Agents have been very busy this summer, with many companies in negotiations and/or mediation and conciliation. And once September 15th arrives several more agreements will be opening for negotiation.
The Alberta Building Trades Council Convention will be held in Canmore this year during the week of September 14th. Local 362 is very involved in the ABTC and will have five Delegates to the convention - Brothers Finley, Eichel, Bennett and Krawchenko as well as International VP Garnet Zimmerman will represent our interests, and we should have a report from the Convention on this page in early October.
The Movie Division continues to be busy in Alberta. Currently in production are "Brokeback Mountain", "Identity Theft", "Shoebox Zoo", "Dawn Anna", and a new project "Into The West 1" ready to begin.
Employees of Dempsey/Monarch have been mailed ballots for a mail in vote on the company's offer for settlement of their Agreement. Ballots are to be returned to the Calgary office to be counted on August 3rd.
Another retirement award was presented when Brother Dan Petrukovich retired after thirty years on the construction Board. He is seen receiving his ring, below, with Brother Lloyd Wood and Brother KenKrawchenko making the presentation.
McMillan Transport of Medicine Hat, have a new three year agreement which has been ratified and is currently out for signature.
Lafarge Construction Materials Precast Division, Calgary, have ratified their agreement which will run for three years as well.
Inland Pipe Plant, Calgary, recently ratified a two year agreement which is also out for signature.
Construction members were glad to see their agreement finalized. The actual document is being proof-read now, and will be out for signature shortly. Once signed, the booklets will be printed and available to those members.
UPS negotiations continue. The sub committees have concluded their work, and now the monetary issues will be dealt with.
Drivers at Gray Line of Banff are holding ratification meetings over the next week or so, and we should know the results by the first week in August.
