In the last couple of years we have heard members speak at meetings regarding how disability insurance provided by either Teamsters or Company Extended Health Plans is insufficient in today’s Alberta.
Also discussed at the same meetings were the difficulties and increased usage our group plans have when disability insurance is increased over the rate of employment insurance. Although we have been unable to improve the plans’ disability insurance over employment insurance your requests have not gone unnoticed.
Manulife Insurance Company (who we deal with in our health plans) has agreed to provide, on an individual basis, an additional or top up type of disability insurance. In keeping with our discussions, we would urge those interested and those with responsibilities to obtain a quote.
This program is only sponsored through your Local Union as there is no contract with Manulife and Local 362 for this additional coverage.
