The Local Union’s Executive Board convened January 29, 2008 for the official swearing in of Officers. Brother Roy Finley, National Representative, Teamsters Canada spoke briefly on the history of the Local Union, noting the two (2) Officers being sworn in were the fourth Officers to hold these positions.

  • Brother Richard Eichel was sworn in as Secretary-Treasurer
  • Brother Alan M. Porter was sworn in as President.


  • Brother Roy Finley turned the meeting over, by gavel, to the newly sworn in Officers.

    The Local Union acquired two Business Agents in the month of January. Brother Bernie Haggarty was employed at Allied Systems in Calgary for the past 17 years and has been a member of the Local since May 1, 1990. In Edmonton, Brother Wayne Garner has been a member since March 21, 1996, employed at Grimshaw for the past 7 years.

    In addition, we welcome Mrs. Nancy Southgate who joined our support staff in the Calgary office, January l4th, as Administrative Assistant. Nancy comes to us after 14 years in the Separate School Board; her clerical skills and expertise in communication is a welcome addition to the Local Union.

    Several contracts are coming due for negotiation this year. Currently, the following are in negotations:

    The building renovation is now 2/3 done, with the end of April as the forecasted completion date.

    The painting/decaling of the Tractor and Trailer is expected to be completed by mid-April — in time for us
    to attend the first scheduled event in Edmonton at the end of April.

    General Teamsters Local Union No 362 represents over 6500 members throughout the province of Alberta. Approximately 35% of which are Teamsters Women working as Truck Drivers, Flight Attendants, Preboard Screening Officers, Warehouse Dock Workers, Bus Drivers, Clerical, etc.

    In recognition of this day, General Teamsters Local Union No 362 would like to acknowledge our Teamsters Sisters working in both Traditional and Non-Traditional roles in the Workplace!!

    General Teamsters. Local Union No. 362 Training Trust Fund

    Training is offered to our Construction and Pipeline members, for whom we are receiving contributions into the Training Fund from Industrial and Pipeline contractors on their behalf. Some of the training that is offered: Transportation of Dangerous Goods, First Aid, PCST, CSTS, Forklift training, Rough Terrain forklift training, computer training, warehouse testing. Upcoming: a new Rigging course is set for the end of this month and the Union and a committee of members are in the process of revising the warehouse exams, which should be coming out in the next couple months. The Training Fund is also working on several new courses to better accommodate our members and to help prepare them for work on the jobsite!
