First and foremost, this is a democratic process. Our Local Union Officers are elected; we decide what should be in our contracts and we vote on it. We have lawyers that can assist us in negotiations and represent us in the workplace. We have experts that can assist us on health and safety issues. But the first steps in the organizational process come from you.
1. Gain support from at least half of your coworkers. Management is excluded from this by the Labor Code and cannot be included in your bargaining unit.
2. Contact Us at Teamsters Local 362. Your privacy will be protected.
3. We will provide you with Application for Membership Cards and our Organizing department will guide you on how to complete them properly. The signing of the card indicates that the signee desires to have Teamsters Local 362 represent them.
4. Once the necessary amount of cards are completed and signed, our Organizing department will apply to the Labour Board for certification on your behalf.
During this process, talk to people that you trust. Your right to organize is protected, but the more subtle you are and the less management knows, the more successful you will be.
If you have questions regarding any of this process, call the Teamsters Offices or Business Agents.
With passion and solidarity, we can make things better.
